There are four
aspects to a long lasting mailbox installation. They are (l) the mailbox,
(2) the connection between mailbox and post, (3) the post, and (4) how
the post is put in the ground. The Veeders Mailbox fulfills the first two
requirements. It is essential that the second two be properly done so the
entire installation remains trouble free. A chain is only as strong as
it's weakest link. The
Veeders Mailbox should be installed on a 6-foot, 6" square wood post
available
from Veeders, or from most home project suppliers throughout the United
States (the actual dimension of this lumber is usually 5 1/2" x 5 1/2").
The brackets welded to the bottom of every Veeders Mailbox are exactly
5 1/2 inches apart. It might be necessary to use a carpenter's plane or
rasp to remove wood from the post so the brackets extend their full
length
on two sides of the post. Special screws are provided to make a secure
connectiion.
If the post is set 2-feet in compacted
dirt, sand, or gravel it will be rigid enough to withstand typical
vandalism,
but if hit by an automobile in an accident situation it is more apt to
yield, withstanding more impact than if it were held in place by
concrete. |
